Well tomorrow is my birthday. This has been an especially rough year, hence the sparse posts, but it’s only getting better. Anyway, I found this ring on Etsy and found myself thinking about it way too much… and then I bought it as a birthday present for myself. This seller is so nice, by the way! I thought it’d be a nice way to celebrate another year of life, despite the fact that it’s a mourning ring.
It’s a Civil War era mourning ring that is etched with a little daisy chain and zig-zag border on a round yellow gold disk mounted to the rose gold band. I really love how sweet and simple it is- and I like the way it looks with my signet ring (which I never take off). There is a place in back where a lock of hair would have been kept behind a protective covering, but which has worn away with time. I’ve been obsessed with antique mourning jewelry for a very long time, but this is my first purchase, as most of it is not attainable for me ($$$!), nor is most of it practical for frequent wear.

If I had $1,200 to casually spend on a rug, it’d be this one. Then I’d force all of my visitors to remove their shoes before entering my domicile.

…to my jewelry collection! Found in this shop for a very decent price. It’s going to fasten a vintage gold swing coat that I have. I had been using a big old kilt pin, but this is what I’ve been looking for.
(can you tell by how beat up my hands are that I’ve been making jewelry lately?)

Thank you all for participating in my giveaway contest. Even though it wasn’t as big a response as I was hoping for, I know some of you are first time commenters and your comments totally cheered me up. I also loved seeing all of your shops, blogs, etc. Of course always a huge thank you to folks who are my regular or sporadic commenters already! You guys keep me going.
Sooo… the randomly selected winner is…. (drumroll)… Victoria!
Victoria’s comment was:
‘I too think itd would be a special necklace to wear every day! It would go so well with my daily stand-by of black skinny pants, a black tunic and cardigan, and my favourite black boots with stacked wood heels. It would stand out perfectly.”
Thank you Victoria!
