Fall Fashion Week 2008

Ahh… It’s that time of year.  Fall Fashion Week.  I feel like designer’s collections really shine for Fall/Winter, because they can do more elegant pieces, create more layered looks, and create a more serious mood with their collections.  This season I’m seeing more of a compromised silhouette; a compromise between the sack-dresses and babydolls that have been so popular for a while and the more form-fitting silhouettes that came before (and are soon going to be back in vogue). So far the only two collections that have really stood out to me are Rachel Comey and Yigal Azrouel’s collections.  Here are some key looks that I liked from the two designers.  I will post more as Fashion Week continues.

Alex & Chloe

I like these two new pieces from Alex & Chloe:

(the latter image is almost identical to a necklace by Campise, however I like the contrasting oxidized chain on this one)

Etsy find: Papaver Vert

These felt pillows are sweet and simple.

Etsy find: Custom silhouette necklaces

I admit, I’ve been obsessed with silhouettes for a long time.  My fondness for them really extends mostly to just the vintage variety, but when I stumbled across Whitney’s Etsy shop I felt I should post about her custom silhouette pendants.  You just send her a profile photo and chose the frame for the silhouette pendant, and she’ll send you your own bespoke silhouette!  Fantastic.

Arielle De Pinto

This is the most beautiful jewelry line I’ve come across for a long time.
Arielle De Pinto’s
pieces are crocheted with various metal chains. For sale here.

Lladro & Committee collaboration

My alternative title for this article was : “Lladro: Not Your Grandma’s Porcelain Anymore.”

So in my mind Lladro has always been associated with old ladies who collect these softly hued pastel statuettes of ceramic ballerinas, girls holding balloons, art nouveau-esque ladies walking poodles, etc. Lladro has wised up. They’re now hiring designers to do limited edition collections for them, some of which are lovely. Committee, out of London, has teemed up with Lladro for their latest collection called Evolution of Love. Also check out here for more of their collaborative pieces with other artists.

Dries Van Noten Fall ’08 Mens

Dries Van Noten can rarely ever do wrong in my book.  His men’s and women’s collections are always impeccable due to his meticulous attention to detail in print and embellishment.

Carolin Reichert

A great portfolio. I like the “Space Between” and “Fakes” series especially.

Jonathan Saunders for Topshop

I’m not very fond of this collaboration as a whole, (the bodies are mediocre, but the graphics are nice)- however, this 80’s inspired oversized graphic tee is definitely something I’d wear with some skinny jeans and boots.

Jose Gonzalez

I like this cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” by Jose Gonzalez, and this video that goes with it.
