Vintage Finds: Ceramics & baskets

August 26th, 2010 | local (L.A.), home, plants, vintage, general, design | 1 Comment »

Today I totally scored.  I found these three amazing pots (my favourite is the large modernist one on the left),  and I found these two baskets with leather-wrapped handles.  The baskets are perfect for my new office, and the pots are perfect for all my succulents and cacti that are rapidly needing bigger pots.

Barlow: Fall 2010

August 1st, 2010 | local (L.A.), fashion, design | No Comments »

Barlow clothing is named after Alice Barlow.  I should mention that Barlow was my manager, and I was her assistant manager, for a lovely and raucous three-and-a-half years.  When she interviewed me back in 2004, she was a tomboyish fresh-faced 19 year old wearing a Polo shirt, jeans, and sneakers.  Now she’s got a freaking hot clothing line named after her!  She’s working with Molly Girard Coonan, the designer of Cynthia Vincent, to create this gorgeous new line of clothes for chic/tough/feminine ladies everywhere.  I saw the Spring collection at Coterie last fall and loved it.

Congrats to Barlow and Coonan on the write up in NY Mag, and here’s to the continued success of the line.  Cheers!

“Tricky Discs”

This is a book that I found (but did not buy) today at a thrift store.  I just loved the title and subject matter.  Not to mention the sweet typeface.

My garden is blooming.  These Echeveria’s are especially lovely at the moment.

I found this elegant old Seth Thomas clock that is an early battery-operated model with convex glass, and this rad enamel necklace today (my husband deemed it “powerful”) at the Goodwill.  I was pretty happy with those two finds.

Henrik Vibskov woven blanket

I really want this throw in bedspread form.  Is that crazy?  This gem is on sale at Creatures of Comfort, along with many other fine things that I still can’t afford.  Sigh.
